Role & Functions of the Committee

  1. Planning and implementing fire safety measures across all buildings and laboratories.
  2. Ensuring availability & maintenance of fire extinguishers, fire alarms, hydrant systems, and emergency kits.
  3. Conducting periodic safety audits in labs, classrooms, corridors, electrical rooms, and storage areas.
  4. Coordinating fire safety training and mock drills for staff, students, and support personnel.
  5. Monitoring compliance with government fire safety norms and institutional safety guidelines.
  6. Identifying fire hazards and recommending corrective measures.
  7. Maintaining safety signage, evacuation maps, and emergency exit indicators.
  8. Planning and supervising evacuation procedures during emergencies.
  9. Ensuring safe storage and handling of chemicals, gases, and electrical equipment.
  10. Preparing annual Fire & Safety Report for IQAC, NAAC, and the Principal.
  11. Provides leadership and supervision for all fire and safety activities in the college.
  12. Prepares annual safety plan and approves maintenance schedules for fire equipment.
  13. Chairs committee meetings and assigns responsibilities to members.
  14. Coordinates with Principal, IQAC, and external fire authorities for inspections and certifications.
  15. Oversees conduct of fire drills, training programmes, and emergency preparedness activities.
  16. Reviews safety audit findings and ensures timely corrective action.
  17. Ensures timely procurement, refilling, and servicing of fire extinguishers and safety equipment.
  18. Monitors documentation required for institutional audits and compliance reports.
  19. Inspect fire extinguishers, alarms, and emergency exits periodically and report issues.
  20. Assist in conducting fire drills and safety demonstrations for staff and students.
  21. Supervise safety arrangements during college events, practical exams, and high-risk operations.
  22. Support laboratory and electrical safety checks to ensure hazard-free environment.
  23. Coordinate with lab assistants and support staff for safe handling of chemicals and equipment.
  24. Maintain records of inspections, equipment servicing, and safety training sessions.
  25. Ensure placement of safety signage such as “Fire Exit,” “Emergency Route,” “No Smoking.”
  26. Guide students on emergency procedures and promote safety awareness.
  27. Report hazards or malfunctioning equipment immediately to the chairman.
  28. Assist in preparation of safety audit documentation for IQAC and NAAC.
